Little Purls of Wisdom

A lot of knittting, and maybe a little wisdom.

Living in the theatre February 27, 2007

Sorry I’ve disappeared recently, but Fiddler has taken over my life. So now I spend all of my time in the theatre and when I’m not there, I am sleeping. The show does give me a lot of knitting time (I can never do homework at rehearsal. I try to, but I always fail miserably). I finished a pretty sock.Look!

sock
It’s my pretty sock yarn from Mouse! It looks amazing all plain and beautiful. Simplicity is sometimes the perfect knitting solution.

I haven’t finished any other socks, but I’m working on them. I’ll have more pictures once Fiddler is over. So I leave you with a lovely picture I found for my postmodernism and theatre class.

I love knitting.

Pomatomus February 22, 2007

So, here are the long awaited pictures of my finished Pomatomus socks. I’m in love with these socks. They are absolutely beautiful and so comfortable.

You can’t really see them here, but they’re very pretty. And very yellow.

pomatomus detail
and a detail shot! The pattern is so fun, and not too complicated either! What is fun is knitting in front of muggles and totally confusing them. They don’t get ho it works, so they’re totally enthralled by the fishy-scale pattern. Silly muggles.

And to finish, sock on my feet!

I have a bit of a knitting dilemma, and I desperately need your input. I told you before that I was planning on making this with the Tiny Toes you gave me for my birthday. The yarn is beautiful and I love it. However, I’m not sure how I feel about it knit in this pattern.

bff
It’s a little hard to see that pattern. It’s a little clearer in this picture:
bff 2
but not by much.
Please let me know what you think A.S.A.P. so I don’t continue knitting, only to decide that it is ugly and would be better off with another pattern.

Oh yeah, and I finished pomatomus.

I’ll show prettier pictures later.
I love you and miss you. Muah!

Sincerely,
Amanda

Socks, snow, and valentines February 14, 2007

There is so much snow. So much snow that my 2 hour class was canceld because my professor was snowed into her driveway. As much fun as class can be, I’m okay with it being canceled.

In other fun news, I have the best Wifey EVER!!!! I got an e-mail today telling me that I had a package to pick up, and what do I find? This!

valentine from wifey
An adorable little basket from my lovely Wifey! Thank you Wifey! Sorry I didn’t get you anything (I’m a bad wife. with no time). Happy Valentines day!
Some time I’ll tell you our story, but now is not the time (yarn brought us together…)

And speaking of yarn, I finished the first Hedera sock.
hedera
I know it’s not a very good picture, but when I finish the second sock I’ll make sure you can see how pretty the pattern is. I love these socks. They just look so beautiful. I used a Regia yarn that I bought on a family day trip at a nice little yarn store. Their selection of sock yarn was limited, but this color way was perfect for Hedera. It’s a nice, deep burgundy that’s heathered with a touch of light green. In the sun it looks fantastic.
I’ve made progress on the second Pomatomus sock, too.
pomatomus
I just started the heel today, so hopefully these will be done soon. They’re so soft and pretty! (i should probobly use a less bright back drop for pictures… but then again what could be more fun than $15 hot pink satin sheets from Urban Outfitters? They were just too silly to refuse.)

Well, it is now time to adventure to rehearsal. Hopefully we’ll be able to get done what we’ve been trying to do sense Sunday. If not, we run the danger of having no act 2. Oh well.

weekends. February 12, 2007

Filed under: Knitting — littlepurlsofwisdom @ 2:16 am

So, I kind of disapeared this weekend. I went home on Friday night, so that was nice. I was able to take care of a lot of stuff that needed to happen, so that was nice. Saturday was a pretty homework filled day (along with watching some movies… but that doesn’t count), as was today. Today was a little different because of the 3 hour rehearsal tossed into the middle of the day. The good news is that I was able to get a pretty good chunk of knitting done with all of the homework and movies.

tiny toes complete 1

I finished the first Tiny Toes sock! It’s so pretty. I love it. How I’ve managed not to start the second sock immediately, I have no idea. It could be all the reading that forbids me from doing any sort of knitting with a pattern. Thanks to all the homework I was able to work on a few pieces for the sock blanket (i don’t have any pictures of those. oops.)
And look!

pomatomus 2

A nice start to the second Pomatomus sock. I’ll finish these soon I think. They’re so amazing that they need to be done soon. There really is no NEED for the socks to be done soon. I just want them to be done so I can wear them everywhere and show them off to the unsuspecting non-knitters that I go to school with.

I told you so February 9, 2007

So far the only pictures I’ve shown have been of socks. well, I do knit other things! Don’t believe me? Well,
cillinette and mountain colors blanket
A blanket! The yarn was a Christmas gift from my Grandparents this year, and it is beautiful. I don’t work on it very much, but I love it anyway.

Didn’t I mention something about lace? Oh yeah!

icarus
It’s the Icarus Shawl from Interweave Knits in Rowan Kidsilk Spray. This yarn is so soft and beautiful (a close relative to the more popular Rowan Kidsilk Haze, affectionately referred to by some knitters as “cracksilk haze” due to its tendency to being highly adictive).

and look, more lace!
alpace with a twist fino

This is the beginning of Ene’s Scarf from the book Scarf Style. I’m using Alpaca with a Twist Fino. This yarn is wonderful. I used it to make the Yarn Harlot’s Snow Drop shawl over the summer.

sock blanket
This is a blanket made entirely out of scrap sock yarn that I have. Eventually it will be 5 feet by 8 feet. For now, I just work on strips from time to time. And this:
bag of scraps
is a bag full of scrap sock yarn. Yeah, I’ve made a few socks, but in my defense I’ve been making socks for about four years now. So I’ve had time to collect all the yarn. I’m not completely insane. I promise.

Oh, and just to make this post complete
socks
Some socks.

It’s here! It’s here! February 7, 2007

My birthday present from Mouse is here!!! It’s so pretty, and amazing. Look!

Apple Laine Apple Pie
Isn’t it beautiful? Apple Laine, Apple Pie fingering weight yarn in Blue Bayou. It’s even prettier in person. And get this: 50% wool, 20% mohair, 20% silk, and 10% nylon. And it’s from Canada (like many good knitting things). I’m in love. THANK YOU MOUSE!!! This will need the perfect pattern.

In other knitting news, the Tiny Toes socks are past the heel. I will have pictures of lace and a blanket soon.

For now, it’s time for lunch!
